Survey: The most expensive luxury hotels in the world

The Brando, situated on the stunning private island of Tetiaro in French Polynesia, is the world’s most expensive hotel for summer stays in 2021, according to a new survey.

The survey by compared prices at luxury hotels around the world based on the cheapest available double room during August 2021. Only hotels with a minimum of 10 guest rooms were taken into account.

Perched on one of a dozen small islands that surround a magical three-mile wide lagoon, The Brando emerged top the rankings with a minimum price of $4,818 per night this summer. The all-inclusive resort boasts 35 secluded villas with private pools on jaw-dropping white-sand beaches.

The second priciest hotel according to the survey’s findings, is Amangiri in the US state of Utah, while Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas in the Indian Ocean came out as third. A remote hideaway in Canyon Point, Utah, Amangiri is a haven for those seeking both adrenaline-fuelled adventure and tranquil desert retreats. Maia Seychelles Villas, meanwhile, is one of the Indian Ocean region’s most popular high-end resorts.

Two upscale ‘dude ranches’ (a nickname for guest ranches in the Western USA), located in the states of Montana and Wyoming, are the 4th and 5th most expensive accommodation options, with rates starting at $3,869 and $3,600, respectively. Europe’s priciest hotel this summer is the Le Dune Hotel on the south western coast of Sardinia, a large Italian island, where guests are being asked to pay a minimum price of $3,321 per night.

The table below shows the world’s 20 priciest hotels this summer. The rates listed indicate the cheapest available price for a double room (including all taxes and fees) from 1 August to 31 August, 2021.

About the survey

The survey was conducted in July 2021. For each hotel the cheapest available rate for a double room during August was recorded, based on rates provided by leading hotel booking websites. Safari lodges were not included. For the purposes of the survey, three-night stays were used as a point of comparison. Please note that cheaper rates may be available for stays of four nights or more, or on other booking websites.
