Hotel Granduca Austin

The Hotel Granduca promises a “‘little corner of Italy’ in the hills of Austin, Texas.” Having opened in 2015, the five-star property is a relative newcomer to the Austin hotel scene, but it offers plenty of amenities and style to make that Italianate dream a reality. The tasteful, modestly-decorated rooms come with balconies, dining areas, kitchenettes and walk-in closets—and they’re also pet-friendly for an additional fee. A courtyard and pool further suggest the dreamy countryside vibes, while the on-site restaurant,Visconti Ristorante & Bar, brings some Italian flavor to your breakfast or lunch. Bringing a dog along? The Driskill

Located in Austin’s city center, this well-known property was built in 1886 by a cattle baron who sought to create “the finest hotel south of St. Louis.” The Driskill (now owned and operated by Hyatt Hotels & Resorts) continues to live up to that promise with its gorgeous architecture and amenities worthy of a five-star property. Some of the highlights include The Driskill Bar, which boasts nightly live music (sometimes from Grammy winners) and the 1886 café and bakery, where you can get breakfast, lunch, or, on the right day, a chance to enjoy one of the property’s “monthly beer dinners.” Once you’ve thoroughly explored the hotel, there are numerous attractions outside the front doors within a mile’s walk, such as the Texas State Capitol, the Paramount Theatre and The Contemporary Austin, a noted art museum.

Austin Proper Hotel

A beautiful hotel with lots of interesting, textured architecture and design, the Austin Proper is a stylish choice for travelers (especially those arriving as couples). Rooms come with all the usual amenities (air conditioning, toiletries, cable TV, wifi) as well as an always-useful (but not always available) fridge. Located a short walk from Shoal Beach, this hotel’s also close to Austin’s capitol building. A 24-hour front desk, fitness center and bar round out this hotel’s amenities.
